Others

The list of parameters include specific contaminants along with other physical, and biological risk factors to drinking water resources. A description of the factor, along with information on where it comes from, and its potential human and environmental health impacts is given in the table. If additional information is available from other sources, a link is provided.

Human and Environmental Effects

Odor

Organic matter, algae, tannins, molds and fungi; dissolved hydrogen sulfide gas or presence of sulfur reducing bacteria

Secondary MCL of 3 threshold odor numbers (TON).

PH

For low pHs - dissolved acids; auto exhausts, fossil fuel combustion; sulfur dioxide and nitrous oxides. For high pHs - alkaline materials.

Maintained within range of 6.5-9.0 in all waters of state.

Acidic waters (low pHs) tend to dissolve lead when it comes in contact with it, and can result in increased lead concentration in drinking water. High pH may increase ammonia concentrations. May cause stress or death to aquatic organisms
